What is Leadership Edge?
The Futures RPI Leadership Edge program is an exciting initiative designed to help develop leadership culture and equip leaders with the skills required to be effective in their roles on a day-to-day basis.
Leadership Edge will give the trailblazers in your organization the opportunity to develop the skills and awareness key to increasing effectiveness in their leadership roles. We will equip them to lead their team, group, division, or organization in pursuit of their respective long-term strategic objectives.
The Leadership Edge program covers a broad range of topics related to effective leadership, including emotional intelligence, self-awareness, communication skills, workplace coaching, conflict resolution and management, performance management, change management, project management, and productivity. Those in the program will also undertake appropriate applied learning projects within their own organizations to further develop organizational culture and engagement.
Who are we looking for?
The program is intended for any and all leaders. For the purposes of the Leadership Edge program, a leader is considered to be anyone who has direct supervisory responsibility for others, however the definition could be expanded to include anyone who has responsibility for overseeing or directing the work of others.
What can you expect?
Four primary learning processes can be used in Leadership Edge programs, depending on what your individual needs are. Each program is customized to you, and can include: Kick-Off and Capstone Sessions, Leadership Learning Sessions, Action Learning Projects, and Online Resources and Learning.
Kick-Off and Capstone Sessions
These ‘conference-style’ events will engage your leaders in a range of discussions and activities related to leadership in organizations. At our Kick-Off event, participants will be introduced to the Action Learning Project element of the program (if applicable), and will work with their managers to identify suitable projects within their home organizations. At the invigorating Capstone event, participants have the opportunity to present back to the larger group the results and outcomes of their Action Learning Projects.
Action Learning Projects
Action Learning Projects encourage participants to work within your organization to identify and implement ‘safe to fail’ projects designed to address or support organizational transformation and development. The focus of these leader driven projects is generally determined through a process at the initial Kick-Off session. Leaders will work to identify practical and tangible activities that they will complete over the course of the program in their own organization.
Leadership Learning Workshops
These practical, 1-day workshops use a variety of learning activities including instruction, paired, small-group, and large group discussion, hands-on exercises, and role-playing scenarios. The emphasis is on practical, usable skills that leaders can immediately apply in the workplace. Participants are provided with course materials, workbooks, and where appropriate additional reading materials and resources.
Online Resources and Learning
In addition to the classroom based learning, you will be provided with access to online Learning Resource Center through which they will access supporting materials, resources, and tutorials. This will include short videos, articles, links to other online resources, and potentially e-Learning courses.
Some of these materials will be in direct support of the topics covered at the in person learning sessions. Others will cover new areas of learning specific to some of the more transactional aspects of being an effective leader – for example finance, human resources, and other corporate functions.
Your online Learning Resource Centre can be used on an ongoing basis – beyond the end of the formal Leadership Edge program. And better yet, we will provide support to you on how existing and future generations of leaders in your organization can access online learning materials.
